ABSTRACT

Empowerment of Village Architects in Playground Design: From Local Potential to Playful Places

Taman Pangulinan Citaman Nagreg, Kabupaten Bandung is a community-based business model that transforms local potential into sustainable playground development. The initiative responds to the need for safe, educational, inclusive, and attractive play spaces while strengthening the role of village architects as local design and service providers. The model integrates local resources, community participation, traditional Sundanese games, and design capabilities into a collaborative value-creation process. Through an empowerment-based Business Model Canvas, the model connects village government, universities, communities, CSR programs, and other partners to support needs identification, site mapping, architect training, participatory design, construction, and evaluation. The proposed playground combines modern spatial elements with traditional games such as engklek, egrang, galah asin, ucing sumput, and congklak, creating a contemporary play experience while maintaining local cultural identity. Its sustainability is supported through diverse funding and revenue streams, including village funds, CSR, grants, sponsorships, playground design services, design replication, and training programs. The model aims to create social, cultural, and economic value by strengthening local capabilities, community ownership, cultural preservation, and opportunities for local design services. Therefore, Taman Pangulinan Citaman Nagreg, Kabupaten Bandung is not only a playground concept, but also a replicable empowerment model that transforms local capability into sustainable value.
